Strangulation Incident at Best Value Inn Leads to Arrest in Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE, OH (June 24, 2024) – Early in the morning, Chillicothe police responded to a disorderly conduct report at Americas Best Value Inn on E Main Street. The incident resulted in the arrest of Jonathan Colon on charges of strangulation and assault.

An officer was dispatched to the hotel at approximately 4:38 a.m. on 6/24/24 following reports of a disturbance involving, a hotel guest in a room, and her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Colon. Colon was reportedly knocking on the door and refusing to leave the premises.

Upon arrival, the Officer spoke with the Victium, who explained that Jonathan had returned after she had invited him back to discuss an earlier incident. Both had consumed alcohol before the situation escalated. According to her, during their conversation outside the room, Jonathan attempted to lift her off the ground by her arms, and when she resisted, he pushed her onto the bed and began strangling her. Her cries for help prompted her guest, to emerge from the bathroom, causing Jonathan to release her and flee.

Despite an initial search of nearby areas by police, Jonathan was not found. However,the victim later informed the police that Jonathan had returned to the hotel. Officers arrived to find Jonathan outside speaking with the victium, who expressed her desire to press charges.

Jonathan was taken into custody without incident. He corroborated the victim’s account but refused to provide further details to avoid getting her in trouble. The officer documented the red marks on Ashlee’s neck and obtained witness statements.

Hotel staff were unable to provide security footage at the time, and Officer Hallam will follow up with the hotel owner, Neil Patel, to retrieve the footage.

Jonathan Colon is currently being held at Ross County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court at 9:00 a.m. on June 24, 2024.
