USA – The CEO of Dicks Sporting goods says not only did they ban the selling of assault-style rifles inter stores but they also destroyed 5 millions worth.
In an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday, Ed Stack said following the decision last year to stop offering assault-style rifles, the question of what to with the remaining inventory lingered.
‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,'” Stack said.
This decision came after a mass shooting in Parkland , Florida. When the owner found out that Dicks was responsible for selling the shooter the shotgun that was used in the killings.
“We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun,” Stack said. “That’s when I said, ‘We’re done.’
When the decision was made to stop selling to adults under 21 Stack says this decision cost the company around 250 million in lost sales.
Currently 125 of Dick’s stores do not sell guns of any kind out of 729 and CEO said he could expand that policy soon.
Currently at Dicks you can still order the same shotgun that was used in the mass killings though, only assault style weapons have been taken off the shelves.
