Lancaster Police Department Welcomes New K9 Addition: Meet K9 Barry!

Lancaster, OH – April 30, 2024

The Lancaster Police Department is thrilled to introduce its newest member of the force, K9 Barry. Accompanied by his handler, Officer Chandler Evanichko #1648, K9 Barry made his debut after completing rigorous training this morning, poised and ready to serve the community.

At just 14 months old, K9 Barry, a Belgian Malinois, brings energy, intelligence, and a strong sense of duty to the team. His specialized training equips him to assist law enforcement in various tasks, enhancing their capabilities on the streets of Lancaster.

The arrival of K9 Barry was made possible through the generosity of local residents Greg and Andrea Riffle. Deeply committed to supporting law enforcement efforts, the Riffles reached out to the Lancaster Police Department seeking ways to contribute to the K9 Unit. Serendipitously, their offer coincided with K9 Barry’s graduation from training, and they graciously funded the purchase of his bulletproof vest.

The Lancaster Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association gratefully accepted this donation on behalf of the department, underscoring the community’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all officers, including their furry counterparts.

Sergeant Chuck Sims, who oversees the K9 Unit, extends an invitation to anyone interested in supporting the department’s K9 program. Those willing to contribute or seeking more information about donations can reach Sergeant Sims at 740-687-6680 Ext. 4518.

The Lancaster Police Department expresses profound gratitude to the Riffle family and the entire community for their unwavering support and dedication to the K9 Unit’s mission of safeguarding the city.
