19-Year-Old Killed in Jeep Rollover Crash in Wellston

Wellston – One young adult was killed the other was hospitalized after being ejected from their vehicle during a crash.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle, fatal crash that occurred at approximately 11:03 p.m., July 30, 2022, on SR327 near Mile Post 8 in Jackson County.

The crash occurred when a black 2007 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Rogan Vickers, 19, of Wellston, Ohio, was traveling southbound on State Route 327. Mr. Vickers drove off the right side of the road striking a guardrail and then reentered the roadway before striking the guardrail a second time. Mr. Vickers and front seat passenger Connor Bates, 23, of Wellston, Ohio, were both ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Vickers was pronounced deceased on scene. Mr. Bates sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was flown to OSU Wexner Medical Center.

Both occupants were not wearing seat belts and alcohol impairment is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Wellston Police Department, Wellston Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, Med-Flight, and Durham’s Towing assisted on scene. Motorists are encouraged to always wear a seat belt on every trip.
