Chillicothe — The first Saturday in March is when the First Capital of Ohio celebrates becoming the first capital in 1803.

On last Saturday, the 58th annual Statehood Day Prayer Breakfast started off Statehood Day in Chillicothe, at its new location in First Presbyterian Church. Bill and Linda Herrnstein received the “Statehood Day Achievement Award.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney gave the “political speech” on the Biblical theme of “blessed are the peacemakers.” The clerical speaker was the Reverend Michael Culp of Great City Church of the Nazarene in Chillicothe.

The notoriously unpredictable late winter weather / early spring allowed for a comfortable day traveling to free open houses of local historical institutions that continued the theme of Statehood Day.
