CIRCLEVILLE – A Mount Vernon man walked away without injury after crashing his minivan into a bridge support on U.S. Route 22 Saturday night.
Dave Kolberg, 55, reportedly blacked out about 10 p.m. Saturday as he made a left turn off the U.S. Route 23 exit ramp onto Route 22 and drove up into the gravel, striking a bridge support.
“I came out of it when people were walking up to check on me,” Kolberg said.
Deputy Justin Schleich, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, said the accident was caused by a medical issue, and drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash. He said Kolberg was advised not to drive until he was checked out by a doctor.
Kolberg said he had never experienced an episode like that before.
“That’s what’s got me shook up,” he said. “I just don’t know what happened.”
The accident was reported, Schleich said, by a driver from Fletcher’s Towing who happened upon the scene. The same driver hauled the vehicle away after the investigation, which took about one hour.
The bridge support was not damaged in the crash.
