CIRCLEVILLE – The man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend to death outside his apartment in February pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Wednesday in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.
Trevor A. Teets, 20, will now be evaluated by Netcare to determine his competency to stand trial. The evaluation was ordered by Judge P. Randall Knece on Wednesday and should take about six weeks to complete.
Teets is charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and domestic violence in the death of 19-year-old Alicia M. Pentecost-Salyers shortly after 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at his apartment at 129 Caroline Ct., Circleville. He was arrested without incident at the scene.
He is being held on a $2 million bond in the Pickaway County jail after being indicted Feb. 6 by the Pickaway County Grand Jury.
Teets originally pleaded not guilty to the charges at an arraignment Feb. 11. His attorney, Jo Kaiser of Columbus, then filed a motion March 13 to request a competency hearing.
If convicted of murder, Teets faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life behind bars and a $15,000 fine.
