Donald Hurley, 77, known to local friends as “Coach” and known to his work friends as “Tank,” passed away July 16, 2015.
He was born in Circleville on June 6, 1938. He was the son of Austin and Ruth (James) Hurley.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Charles Hurley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bettie; son, Michael (Johnna) Hurley; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley and Jessica; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Funk; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald served in the Air National Guard while working at DuPont, and then AT&T for 27 years. He enjoyed dancing at the Smith’s Dance Garden, American Legion and VFW.
He was a huge OSU Buckeye fan and is in the book Woody’s Boys. The chapter “The Fan” is about Donald. He also enjoyed spending time at his home in Apple Valley and was a fan of John Wayne, classic country music and country western television shows.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at the Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Manson officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Twp. Cemetery.
