ASHVILLE – The village of Ashville honored the state champion Teays Valley girls softball team Tuesday with signs at the village limits recognizing their accomplishment for the 2015 season.

“The first one went up Tuesday by the high school,” said Chuck Wise, village mayor. “We’ve got six of them, and we should be getting them all up this week.”

Wise said the goal was to have all the signs in place by the start of school for Teays Valley on Aug. 13.

“We had the girls on stage during the Queen’s contest at the 4th of July and gave them a plaque, and I told them then we would get championship signs up,” Wise said. “It’s pretty exciting, because not many people can put Division 1 Champion on their city limit signs.”

Wise said the new signs were purchased through funds in the village’s budget dedicated to signage.

The Lady Vikings took the title in June after defeating Lebanon 1-0 in the Division 1 state softball championship.

It was the first time in Teays Valley history a team has brought home a state championship title.

Team members include Hayden Ellis, Hannah Giammarino, Cailey Grier, Shayna Harmon, Raelynn Hastings, Meredith Keel, Sarah Klein, Katelyn Loughman, Kayla Meadows, Logann Rickards, Alyssa Rothwell, Sydney Salyards, Hanna Skellett, Hope Skellett, Hannah Waddell and Courtney Wilburn.
