CIRCLEVILLE – The man who robbed a New Holland bank at gunpoint in January was sentenced to a mandatory seven years in state prison for the crime.
Larry G. Murray II, 38, was sentenced Wednesday in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court to a mandatory four years for aggravated robbery and a mandatory three years for a gun specification, according to Jayme Fountain, assistant county prosecutor.
The two sentences were ordered to be served consecutively for a mandatory seven years, she said.
Murray also received a 12-month sentence for the theft charge relating to the case, she said, but that sentence was ordered to be served concurrently with the other two. He also must pay $6,895 in restitution.
Murray was indicted April 10 by the Pickaway County Grand Jury on charges that he entered the Milton Bank, 25 N. Main St., New Holland, about 11:50 a.m. Jan. 21, approached a teller and demanded money at gunpoint.
He was linked to the crime scene by DNA evidence examined by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and tracked by detectives from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office to Kentucky, where he was taken into custody March 12.
At the time of his arrest, Murray was already wanted on a warrant from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office on charges of robbery, kidnapping and theft, and was convicted in April of aggravated robbery in that case.
Fountain said he was sentenced to a mandatory six years for the Brown County crime, and Judge P. Randall Knece ordered his Pickaway County sentence to begin when the Brown County sentence is completed. In all, Murray will spend the next 13 years behind bars for the two crimes.
