WALNUT TOWNSHIP – A local man appeared to escape serious injury Sunday after crashing head-on into two trees on Hagerty Road.
Harry B. Clifton, 28, had to be extricated from his 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck following the crash about 6:23 a.m. but could be released from the hospital as early as Sunday afternoon, according to Sgt. Gary Barrowman, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Barrowman said Clifton was traveling westbound on Hagerty Road before dawn and failed to navigate the curve in the roadway, instead driving straight through a ditch and head-on into two trees on the property at 8080 Hagerty Rd.
Clifton was not wearing a seat belt, Barrowman said, which caused him to slide forward off the front seat and get wedged on the floorboard between the seat and the firewall. Crews from the Harrison Township and Circleville fire departments had to stabilize the wreckage in order to remove Clifton from the vehicle.
Barrowman said Clifton was transported to Berger Hospital, then airlifted to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus due to the lengthy entrapment, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
