COMMERCIAL POINT – Village residents will see a new mayor and two new council members for the start of the new year after Tuesday’s general election.
Gary A. Joiner was elected for the mayor’s position with 49.31 percent of the vote (321 votes). Joiner led the race by a large margin against Jim Kuzelka with 25.50 percent (166 votes) and Randy E. Shelton with 25.19 percent (164 votes).
Joiner will take over the mayor’s seat from current mayor Joe Hammond, who chose not to run for re-election.
Current council seats held by Shelton and Clarence Wissinger also will see new members in the new year with Scott O’Neil and Ben Townsend earning those positions on Tuesday’s ballot.
O’Neil garnered the largest percentage of the vote at 31.73 percent (324 votes), followed by Townsend at 28.21 percent (288 votes). Two additional candidates for the two council seats were John Capretta, who earned 27.13 percent of the vote (277 votes) and Wissinger at 12.93 percent (132 votes) in his bid for re-election.
