CIRCLEVILLE – The man accused of robbing an Ashville bank in August and then posting selfies with the stolen cash on Facebook will spend the next three years behind bars after being sentenced last week in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.
John E. Mogan II, 28, of Pataskala, pleaded guilty to robbery and theft on Dec. 30, 2015. He was sentenced to 36 months in state prison and $6,430 in restitution for the crime.
His girlfriend, Ashley K. Duboe, 24, of Lancaster, also is charged in connection with the case.
The robbery occurred about 8:48 a.m. Aug. 24, 2015, at the Savings Bank branch on state Route 752 in Ashville, when a male entered the bank, handed the teller a note demanding cash, then fled on foot from the building.
Mogan and Duboe made international headlines in the following weeks after Mogan posted photos of himself holding wads of cash, along with a photo of himself, Duboe and the cash in front of a sign indicating they were somewhere in Georgia.
The story was picked up by multiple news outlets, including CNN, the New York Daily News, The Smoking Gun web site and the Daily Mail in Great Britain, among others.
Mogan and Duboe were taken into custody in late September and held on $250,000 bond pending trial.
Duboe is set for a jury trial Jan. 21 in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court. She is charged with two counts of complicity to robbery and one count of complicity to theft.
