Damon “Bud” Barnes, 88, of Adelphi, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Ohio State University Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born April 12, 1927, in Hallsville, Ross County, the son of William and Bessie (Barnhart) Barnes.
Left behind to cherish their memories are his beloved wife of 67 years, Leona (Rutter) Barnes; his beloved children, Mike (Peggy) Barnes of Kingston and Tonia (Barry) Marshall of Stoutsville; grandchildren, Tiffany Blaskis of Hilliard, Mallory (Ethan) Mathias of Stoutsville and Angie (Rob) Thomas of Adelphi; great-grandchildren, Alexa Clark of Hilliard, Bobby, Lychelle (Tyler Smittler) and Christopher (Bethany Jerrell) Thomas of Kingston; sisters, Mary Lewis of Middletown, Florence Hettinger of Adelphi and Betty (Dick) Huffman of Logan; brothers, Nate Barnes and Roger (Betty) Barnes of Circleville; sister-in-law, Lottie Diltz; special friends and family members, Belinda Boltenhouse, Jerry, Lynn and Jodi Chester; and four-legged companions, Hudson and Buttercup.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Goldie Francis Barnes; brothers-in-law, Robert Lewis, Glen Hettinger, Jim Diltz and Kelson Rutter; and sister-in-law, Betty Barnes.
He worked at Mead Paper Mill in Chillicothe for 47 years in the calendar department, volunteered for the Adelphi Senior Center and was a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Adelphi for many years. He also liked to tinker and fix old clocks like his Grandfather Barnhart. He liked to fish, play cards and spend time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston, with Rev. Carroll Carper officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hill’s.
