Jasper Leonard Oppy, age 69, of Stoutsville, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Denver F. and Betty I. (Edingfield) Oppy.
Jasper worked as a truck driver for over 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, Vickie Cross; seven children, Mona (Larry) Blair of Gilboa, West Virginia, Tonya (Scott) Weaver of Greenfield, Angie (Ryan) Gilles of Marysville, Shanna (Rick) Albert of Mason, Crystal Cross of Lima, Lenny Oppy of Dayton and Jarron Oppy of Dayton; 11 grandchildren, Justin Oppy, Tyler Weaver, Taylor Weaver, Logan Davis, Cassie Gilles, Ian Gilles, Kevin Albert, Brooke Oppy, Jordan Oppy, Leah Oppy and Hailey Schmiedebusch; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Brentlinger and Camilla Oppy; seven siblings, James (Marilyn) Oppy of Springfield, Julia (Mike) Minderman of Hillsboro, Denver Oppy of Hillsboro, Terry Oppy of Wilmington, Russel Osborn of Dayton, Bo (Pam) Osborn of Dayton and Johnny (Donna) Osborn of Hillsboro; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Fay Oppy; step-father, Gene Osborn; a son, Jasper Joseph Oppy; a sister, Patty Brewer; a sister-in-law, Donna Oppy; and a brother-in-law, Bill Rhoads.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday March 7, 2016, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Hillsboro. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. following visitation on Monday at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard following funeral services.
