Daniel E. Fout

Daniel E. Fout, 64, of Circleville, passed Thursday, March 10, 2016, with his loving wife by his side.

He was born Oct. 18, 1951, in Columbus.

He graduated from South High School and was an Airborne Paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was a paralyzed 100 service connected veteran.

Dan is survived by his wife of 38 years, “Casey,” Carol Ballou Fout of Circleville; son, Jason Edward (Wendy) Fout; grandsons, Jacob Daniel and Dallas Lee of Norfolk, Virginia; his “chosen” daughters, Lauren Woods of Canal Winchester and Emily Woods of Cleveland; sister, Margaret Leighner of Ft. Myers, Florida; brothers, Stanley (Susan) Fout of Glouster and Ted (Joyce) Fout of Groveport; brothers-in-law, Bill Ballou, James (Mary Jo) Ballou of Circleville and Bruce Ballou of Hide Away Hills; sisters-in-law, Sue Ballou of Henderson, New York, Barbara (Bobbie) Smith of Humble, Texas and Martha Sharrett of Gallipolis. Daniel also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Betty Fout; father- and mother-in-law, William E. and Mildred Ballou; brother-in-law, Paul E. Ballou; sister-in-law, Louise Ballou; nephew, Jarrett Ballou; and niece, Staci Michele Ballou.

His unwavering faith and love of life was an inspiration to his family and friends.

His paralysis did not deter him from pursuing his passions. He was active in wheelchair sports on the state, national and international level, and he had national records in swimming, He had over a thousand medals from these events. He participated in swimming, archery and cross bow hunting. His favorite pastime was spending time with his “Logan Elm Family” and watching his “kids” excel in sports and life. They provided him countless hours of enjoyment.

He wished to acknowledge St. Paul’s Methodist Church, where he was an active member, for all the cards and prayers during his year-long hospitalization and the many visits from family and friends who took the time and effort to travel to Cleveland. Special thanks to Tim and Heidi Woods and Jeanne Radcliff for always being there, no questions asked.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held when his son, Jason, Navy Independent Duty Corpsman on the USS Harry S. Truman, completes his tour of duty in the Middle East.
