SCIOTO TOWNSHIP – A vehicle discovered in the Scioto River early Monday morning was unoccupied and reportedly stolen from Columbus.
According to Lt. James Brown, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, the Ford F-150 pickup truck was spotted by a Teays Valley bus driver about 7:25 a.m. near the bridge on state Route 762.
The Scioto Township Fire Department was dispatched and requested mutual aid from Harrison Township, Brown said. Pleasant Township and Jackson Township fire departments also assisted at the scene.
“Jackson Township had a boat, so they went out and checked but there was no one in the vehicle,” Brown said. “They also checked the immediate area around it, but they didn’t find anyone.”
The truck was pulled from the river by Fletcher’s Towing crews, he said.
“Once we got it in, we checked the license plates, and it came back to a person from Columbus,” Brown said. “It turns out they were just getting ready to file a report on it being stolen when they were contacted.”
Brown said the incident remains under investigation.
