CIRCLEVILLE – A local man escaped with minor injuries after crashing his car into a house Saturday evening on Northridge Road.
Dwight Disbennett, 48, was cited for failure to control after reporting he fell asleep behind the wheel prior to the crash, according to Officer Kory Yoder, Circleville Police Department.
Yoder said Disbennett was traveling northbound on Nicholas Drive at the intersection of Northridge Road when the accident occurred about 8:47 p.m.
According to Matthew Dixon, a local homeowner who witnessed the crash, Disbennett swerved to avoid striking a utility pole and another vehicle in the intersection, then struck the curb in front of his house on the east side of Edgewood Drive. The driver then overcorrected to the west, driving his silver Hyundai straight up the driveway and into the corner of the home at 445 Northridge Rd. owned by Dick and Mary Lou Partee.
The point of impact was mostly concrete block construction, and the house appeared to suffer only minor damage in the crash.
Mrs. Partee said she had just gone inside the house when the crash occurred, and if it had happened just seconds before, she could have been directly in the Hyundai’s path.
“I was lucky,” she said. “I heard it hit and came back out. It scared the living daylights out of me.”
Dixon said he was outside with his kids when the crash occurred. He said he originally thought the vehicle was coming into his yard before it overcorrected and struck the Partee house.
“It’s a miracle that’s all that happened and no one else was hurt,” he said.
Dixon said he believes the intersection at Northridge Road, Nicholas Drive and Edgewood Drive is dangerous and would like to see the speed limit reduced.
“People just fly through here all the time,” he said.
