Carl Edward Bumgarner, 85, of Ashville, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1931, in Pickaway County, to the late Harold and Nellie (Eitel) Bumgarner.

He dedicated his life to his wife of 63 years, Mary Irene (Partee) Bumgarner; his children and grandchildren; as well as his love for Ohio State sports.

Carl was a graduate of Walnut Township High School in the class of 1948. He participated in playing on teams in Ohio Fast Pitch Softball League of many years throughout Ohio.

He served in the Ohio National Guard Service Company, 166th RCT infantry, at Fort Hayes, Columbus, as a corporal from 1948-1953 and in the 121st Supply Squadron as a 5/ SCT at Rickenbacker Air Base from 1953-1956.

Carl retired from Boeing, the former North American Aviation and Rockwell International of Columbus. He previously worked for Reynolds Metals Co. in Ashville for a number of years.

Carl and Mary owned and operated the Ashville Cleaning Center from 1976 to 2000. He was awarded Ashville Community Club Distinguished Service Award in 2007. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ashville serving as Trustee and Deacon. He was a member and Past Chancellor of K.P. Lodge # 413.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lawrence Carle.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Steven (Linda) of Groveport, Ronald (Shannon) and Douglas (Glenda), all of Ashville; grandchildren, Keely (Jeff) Nagy of Columbus, Kendra (Josh) Skeens of Pickerington, Derek, Devin and Bryce, all of Ashville; great-granddaughters, Lyla and Luna Nagy; sister-in-law, Wilda Bumgarner; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6046 St. Paul Rd., Ashville, with Rev. John Stroup officiating. Interment will follow in Reber Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville.
