Bessie E. Hettinger, 89, of Circleville, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at Pickaway Manor.
She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Circleville, the daughter of Donald C. and Jeannette (Smallwood) Morris.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dannie Sr. in 2002; her sister, Rosabelle Henn; brothers, Don, James, George and Dudley; and great-grandson, Anthony Strassel.
Bessie worked as a waitress at the Franklin Inn and met her future husband, Dannie, there. They were married on June 3, 1950.
Bessie worked for 18 years as head cook at GE, then transferred to the plant when automation came to the cafeteria. She retired in 1987 to babysit for her grandchildren. Her required payment for her services was Lindsey’s donuts every Friday.
Bessie was a very loving person, a great mom and grandmother. She worked hard, loved to have fun and was known for making the best homemade noodles. Although a good cook, she was happy when McDonald’s came to town, as Tuesday nights gave her a reprieve from the kitchen to enjoy their 19-cent cheeseburgers.
Bessie will be greatly missed and is survived by her loving family: daughter, Diana Hettinger; sons, Dannie Jr. (Rachel) and Dallas (Sandy) Hettinger; grandchildren, Ernie (Jodelle Strassel) Haddox, Kyle Hettinger, Wesley (Debbie) Hettinger, Jacqueline (Jimmy) Miller, Jeannette (Bruce) Cartwright, Kaylyn (Nick) Pryor, Zach (Samantha) Hettinger and Tyler (Sarah) Hettinger; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
