CIRCLEVILLE – An OVI checkpoint conducted Aug. 5 in South Bloomfield resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver and several additional violations, according to the Circleville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The checkpoint was held from 10 p.m. to midnight on U.S. Route 23 in South Bloomfield in conjunction with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, South Bloomfield Police Department, Ashville Police Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
In addition to the impaired driver arrest, an additional arrest was made for misdemeanor drug possession, according to Lt. Steven Herron, Circleville Post Commander. Two drivers also were cited for driving under suspension.
Herron said contact was made with 142 motorists during the multi-agency checkpoint effort.
“The cooperation between agencies in this program shows the level of commitment we all have to making the roadways safer in Pickaway County,” Herron said. “Multi-agency cooperation solidifies the relationship between all Pickaway County law enforcement agencies and leads to positive accomplishments within the community.”
OVI checkpoints are funded by federal grants, Herron said, and were planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoint was conducted in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.
Herron said if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink.
