Roger E. Cunion, 77, of Marietta, passed away July 26, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 4, 1939, in Zanesville, a son of the late Charles and Audra Koontz Cunion.
Roger graduated from Rosecrans High School, Zanesville, in 1957 and then served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1961.
He began his banking career at Economy Savings & Loan in Zanesville, Circleville, Logan and Marietta. He retired from Peoples Bank in Belpre in 1995, where he was an assistant vice president.
After his retirement, he worked at First Settlement selling men’s clothing, Washington County Educational Service Center delivering videos to schools in Washington County, and Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home.
He was a member of the Marietta Lions Club, Jaycees in Circleville and Sertoma in Circleville.
He was raised in the Roman Catholic Church and attended Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta.
Roger enjoyed travel, golf, family vacations in Key West, Florida, and Cherokee Village, Arkansas, football, and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra L. Zeigler Cunion, whom he married Sept. 2, 1967; a daughter, Misti Dawn Spencer, and grandson, Brandon Todd Fitch, both of Marietta; mother-in-law, Celia Zeigler; brother-in-law, Dennis (Sherry) Zeigler; sister-in-law, Lisa Zeigler, and good friend, Carmella Bailey; one niece, Rebecca (Chris) Minor; one nephew, David Zeigler, all of Kingston; and two great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dana Zeigler.
There will be no visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Hallsville Cemetery near Hallsville, with Pastor Greg Gardner officiating. There will be full military honors at the graveside.
The family would like to thank all staff and physicians at Marietta Memorial Hospital for taking such good care of Roger.
The Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home of Belpre and Hill Funeral Home of Kingston are assisting the family.
