CIRCLEVILLE – Two men escaped with minor injuries Saturday after rolling a large straight truck off the embankment along U.S. Route 23.
Ezra Cooper, 70, and Stacy Cooper, 47, both of Vanceburg, Kentucky, were transported to Berger Hospital for treatment following the crash that occurred about 4:32 p.m., according to Deputy Phil Relli, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Relli said Ezra Cooper was driving a Budget rental truck southbound on U.S. Route 23 when he veered off the west side of the highway and attempted to correct. Investigators believe the load inside the truck shifted, the tires dug into the soil of the embankment, and the truck tipped over onto its side.
MedFlight was initially called in because of a reported entrapment, Relli said, but the helicopter was not needed once rescue crews arrived and determined the extent of the injuries.
He said once rescue crews cut the windshield from the truck, both men walked out of the cab under their own power.
Circleville Fire Department and Pickaway Township Fire Department crews assisted at the scene.
Relli said clean-up of the scene took about four hours to complete.
