Rose Whitehead

Rose Whitehead, 84, of Circleville, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Butler, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Leone) Doria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Anna Mae Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Louis Roccki.

Rose was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Circleville, where she served as a lector and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society and was chair of the Bereavement Committee for many years.

Rose enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting and designing her own Christmas ornaments. She would often enter her needlework and culinary fare in the Circleville Pumpkin Show. Rose was proudly proclaimed the Grand Champion Pumpkin Pie Baker.

As a 40-year member of her bridge club, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Rose and Darwin also enjoyed traveling across the country, camping and cruising.

Rose is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Darwin Whitehead; children, Daniel (Hilda) Whitehead of Bellevue, Nebraska, David (Mitzi Whisler) Whitehead of Circleville, favorite daughter, Denise (Jim) Cordle and Steven (Lisa) Whitehead, both of Lancaster, and Kathryn (Jeffrey) Reams of Circleville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Roccki; brother, Charles (Genevieve) Doria; brother-in-law, Larry Thomas; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, in the lower level of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, with Fr. Ted Machnik, Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Circleville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville, OH 43113, with Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, OH 43113.
