“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” set for December 13, 2013-January 1, 2014
It is hard to have a Happy Holiday when you are arrested for drunk driving! This Holiday Season, many will celebrate the season with parties and get-togethers that will involve alcohol. This is especially true during the New Year’s celebration. If you are planning a party, give your guests the best gift of all—SAFETY! Plan for a safe way home for your guests if they have too much to drink, or plan for overnight guests to make sure the Holidays are truly “Happy”.
Planning ahead is the key. Designate a driver, or call for a ride if possible. Although drunk driving is an issue, and a crime, it is a year round concern for traffic safety advocates. But, statistics show that the Holiday Season is a truly dangerous time. In 2011, 760 people lost their lives nationwide as a result of a drunk driving crash during the month of December. This statistic shows that making the decision to drive drunk not only risks the chance of going to jail, but endangers your life, the lives of your passengers, as well as others on our roadways. So, as a result, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office will make sure they do all they can to make Pickaway County roadways safe this Holiday season. They, along with other Pickaway County law enforcement, will step up their patrols to remind drivers that you need to “Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over”.
“We will again make traffic safety a priority for this Holiday Season”, noted Sheriff Robert Radcliff. “I urge drivers to not hesitate to call our office if they suspect someone is driving impaired. With the extra patrols paid for from our High Visibility Enforcement grant, we hope to have a fatal-free Holiday Season.”
