LANCASTER, Ohio – South Central Power has sent 11 line workers to North Carolina to assist in power restoration efforts resulting from Hurricane Florence.

South Central Power’s line workers are among the dozens of personnel from Ohio electric co-ops who will be helping restore power in the service territories of North Carolina co-ops including South River EMC, where South Central personnel will work. As of Friday afternoon, South River EMC had 23,000 members without power, and outage numbers were still climbing.

“One of our guiding principles is what we call cooperation among cooperatives, and co-ops coming to each other’s aid in times of need is nothing new,” said Rick Lemonds, president & CEO of South Central Power. “When we heard that our co-op friends in North Carolina needed our help, we didn’t hesitate to answer the call.  I can only imagine the devastating impact that Hurricane Florence has had on the folks in North Carolina. We wish them God’s speed and want them to know help is there.”

Mutual aid efforts are being coordinated by Columbus-based Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, the statewide trade association for Ohio’s 25 electric co-ops.

South Central Power Company is Ohio’s largest electric cooperative with 118,000 meters in 24 counties.  South Central Power has offices in Lancaster, Barnesville, Canal Winchester, Circleville and Hillsboro.
