ASHVILLE – The Teays Valley Educational Foundation awarded Scioto Elementary kindergarten teacher Dawn Wasem a $5,491.13 grant to add an outdoor building station to the playground. This request was a result of a problem-based learning unit Wasem introduced to her students called “How can we stay safe on the playground?”
“I’d like to thank the Teays Valley Educational Foundation for supporting problem-based learning. Problem-based learning is at the cutting edge of education right now. Students who are involved in these hands-on learning opportunities will become proficient in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and active and responsible decision-making,” Wasem said. “This work will bring more real-world experience into Teays Valley’s education system. I will be able to offer learning experiences that prepare students to become problem solvers who take on the challenges of the 21st century world.”
