February 10, 2020
A SR 328 resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to file a theft report. The victim told deputies that they believed a relative had stolen prescription medication from the residence. The case remains under investigation.—–
February 11, 2020
Deputies responded to a SR 327 residence for a theft complaint. The complainant, South Central Power told deputies that after shutting off the electric utility to the residence, it had been illegally restored. Deputies saw how the meter had been improperly connected. Deputies attempted to speak with the resident, who they saw going into the residence, but refused to answer the door. Charges for theft have been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.—–

Deputies received a report of a dog bite that had occurred on Northwest Rd. The victim received serious injuries to their extremities and was transferred to a Columbus hospital for treatment. The deputy and Humane Agent took control of the dog for a mandatory 10 day quarantine period. The owners received a citation for unregistered dogs.—–
February 12, 2020
Deputies responded to Laurelville elementary after school officials discovered possible narcotics. SIU detectives responded and after beginning an investigation, went to a Laurelville residence. After receiving permission and conducting a search, detectives located several items of containers that had likely contained narcotics. Those items seized will be sent to the BCI crime lab for analysis. Children’s Services was present and will be conducting their own investigation and follow-up.—–
February 12, 2020
Deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint at a Fairview Rd. residence. After investigation, it was learned that the suspect had fled prior to the deputy’s arrival. Deputies learned that the suspect, a juvenile had a prior delinquent offense for the same behavior, but was not currently on any type of court supervision. Charges were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.—–

Deputies responded to a Carbon Hill residence for a reported burglary. After searching and investigating the incident, deputies and family members believed it may have been a medical issue and family will monitor the situation.—–

Deputies responded to a Goose Creek Rd. residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.—–
February 15, 2020
Deputies responded to a Hansel Ave. residence for a theft complaint. The victim told deputies that the window on their vehicle had been shattered to gain entry to their locked vehicle. Several items were reported stolen.—–

Deputies responded to a Maple St. Laurelville residence for a scam complaint. The victims told the deputy that they had received correspondence in the mail that told them that they had won a large prize in a national sweepstakes. A check for several thousands of dollars was included as part of a processing fee and they were directed in the letter to contact a person to start the processing of the prize. The deputy told them that this was indeed a fraud and to not contact the person/telephone number. Hocking County residents are increasingly seeing these types of scams. Usually they involve receiving a check, being asked to deposit it into their account and send a sum of money via money cards or other type of payment back. The victims learn in a few days that the check was fraudulent and they are out the money sent using their own funds. Please do not send money to anyone you do not personally know.—–

Deputies responded to a Maple St. Laurelville residence for a 911 call of a domestic violence situation. After arriving deputies learned that the incident involved two juvenile brothers arguing over a game system and being too loud. A parent was contacted and came back to the residence. The parent was left to handle the situation since no violence occurred.—–

Deputies responded to an Old McArthur Rd. residence for an interference with custody complaint. After investigating the matter and talking to the suspect (child’s parent) the child was returned to the grandparent.—–

Deputies responded to a Parkway Dr. residence for a verbal domestic situation. No violence occurred, but a party was very intoxicated and was warned for disorderly conduct.—–

Deputies responded to a verbal domestic situation in Carbon Hill. After speaking with the parties involved, it was believe one person was suffering from adverse effects of their new medication.—–
February 16, 2020
Deputies responded to Cohagen Rd. for a dog complaint. The victim told deputies that the neighbor’s dog had come onto their property and killed a chicken. The deputies completed an investigation and referred the matter to the deputy dog warden for charges.—–

A Pleasant Valley Rd. resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to report a theft. The case remains under investigation.
