Hocking County – Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:

April 16, 2020
Deputies responded to Ace Storage SR 93 after the renter of a storage unit reported that their unit had been broken into. A total of 9 units had been entered. Detectives assisted in processing the scene. The case is currently under investigation.—–
April 17, 2020
Deputies responded to a complaint involving a violation of the Health Commissioner’s order for transient rental properties at a Feathers Rd. address. After investigating the matter deputies were told the occupants were cleaning and maintenance persons who had been allowed to stay by the owners in order to get away. Deputies believed this to be a violation and submitted the case file for consideration of criminal charges.—–
April 18, 2020
Deputies while on patrol in Laurelville saw a person with an active warrant. When deputies told Patrick Hart, 37, South Bloomingville that he was under arrest, Hart ran into the woods. Additional charges have been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.—–
April 18, 2020
Deputies were dispatched to a theft complaint at a Salt Creek Apartment Laurelville. The victim told deputies that they were to have received a shipment of equipment from Spectrum, but had not received it. It was learned that Patrick Hart, 37, South Bloomingville had been in possession of the box of equipment and witnesses told deputies that he had taken it from a porch. Hart was arrested for his warrant and taken to the SEORJ. Hart denied the theft. Charges for theft were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.—–

Deputies responded to a Wolfe Rd. residence for a criminal mischief complaint. The victim told deputies that someone had cut a brake line on their vehicle.—–
April 20, 2020
Deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint at a Cantwell Cliff Rd. residence. After investigation, deputies learned that Jesse Ayers, 33, Rockbridge had fired two alleged warning shots during an argument. Ayers was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence and Aggravated Menacing and was transported to the SEORJ. Deputies seized the weapon and 3 other firearms that were observed in the same closet.—–
April 20, 2020
Deputies were contacted by a Starr Route Rd. resident to report and incident of identity fraud. The victims told deputies that they received tax information from the State of Ohio that they had not filed and believed someone was attempting to use their information to file taxes.—–
April 20, 2020
Deputies responded to a Geiger Rd. residence for a breaking and entering complaint. The victim told deputies that someone had broken into a camper and shed on the property. Deputies collected evidence to submit to the BCI crime lab for analysis. The case remains under investigation.—–
April 21, 2020
Deputies responded to a complaint of suspicious persons walking on SR 595 near Maysville-Greendale Rd. After locating the two persons, they provided deputies false names. The males were in possession of several firearms. After finally positively identifying the two, deputies arrested Thomas R. Smith, a convicted felon, for Having Weapons Under Disability and active warrants. Charges of Obstructing Official Business were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for the other person. Smith was transported to the SEORJ.—–

Deputies responded to a Big Pine Rd. residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.—–

Deputies responded to a SR 595 residence after the owner of a horse returned home to find it deceased. The owner feared the horse may have been shot. Deputies searched the horse and did not find any gunshot wounds. The owner was told that they could have a necropsy conducted at their own expense. Deputies spoke with tenants on the property who denied hearing any gunshots or shooting themselves.—–

Deputies took a report in which one parent had allegedly made threatening statements to another parent over nude photographs of a juvenile being shared by other juveniles. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau for follow up.—–

Deputies responded to a Sam’s Creek Rd. residence for a theft complaint. The victim told deputies that panels for a shed were taken.
