COLUMBUS – Over a week after a contract with Columbus Schools runs out in reference to school resource officers, the Chief issues abolishment of position notices.

According to Columbus Police with no contact in sight the Chief has had to issue abolishment to 22 officers for change in duty. 20 full time officers and 2 sergeants will be displaced into other jobs that were stationed at schools as resource officers in years prior.

“On June 30, 2020, a 3-year contact expired with the school district. No new contract is in place,” said the division of police.

The abolishment notices are required due to their current collective bargaining agreement, and the Chief has the responsibility, “to ensure proper distribution of personnel and without a contact in place. I am required to assign the officers to a position that is operation and essential, said Chief Quinlan.

One officer in Worthington High school will remain in place due to a one year contract with the school.

Following the death of George Floyd and nationwide protest against police brutality several democrat ruled cities have aimed to defund police.
