Lancaster OH- Scioto Post reached out to Lancaster City School for a statement regarding bus drivers noticeably missing from the beginning of the school year and whether it had anything to do with the COVID-19.

Here is the statement we were provided from the school.

“We currently do not have any bus drivers who have tested positive for COVID-19, however, we do have 4 drivers who are currently under quarantine. All 4 of these drivers have been under quarantine before the start of the school year on September 1st.

One of the quarantined drivers is awaiting results of a COVID test administered the day before school began (Monday).

Two drivers have been under quarantine since last week because of contact tracing. Contact tracing requires anyone who was within 6 feet of a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 for 15 minutes or more to be quarantined for 14 days. Neither of these drivers are experiencing symptoms.

The fourth driver has been under quarantine since Sunday because their spouse is awaiting results of a COVID test. This driver is also not experiencing symptoms.

Precautions have been taken to protect students and drivers from contracting COVID on the bus. Students are not seated within 6 feet of the driver, face masks are required for all students and the driver, we limit students sitting in the same seat as much as possible, and seats are sanitized between bus runs. While social distancing is maintained between seated students and the driver on a bus, there is no way to maintain 6 foot social distancing between students on a bus.”
