Fairfield County – This morning around 1 am firefighters were called to 7985 Lancaster-Circleville Road for the report of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the structure partially engulfed in flames.

Amanda Township Fire Department released a statement on the situation afterward.

First arriving unit encountered heavy fire conditions in the front of the home and confirmed that there was a missing occupant that had not exited the home.

Crews immediatley made an aggressive interior search to the areas of the home that were determined to be potentially tenable for life. Firefighters battled an extremely large and difficult fire throughout the morning hours.

Sadly, we were able to locate and confirm a single fatality just before 8 a.m. during an investigation with the Ohio State Fire Marshalls Office. Three other occupants were able to safely exit the structure and received emergency medical treatment. One firefighter received treatment on the scene for heat exhaustion.

The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing at this time. Our condolences are with the family today and we would like to thank the departments that assisted Amanda Fire on this incident.

Firefighters transported two children with minor injuries to a local hospital, mother of the children was unharmed.

Early reports say that the man died saving his family from the fire, we are working to confirm this.
