Rax Closed Voluntarily After Health Inspection Uncovered Infestation

PICKAWAY – Local Rax restaurant has been closed after a poor report from Pickaway county health of an infestation of mice inside the store.

According to a report from Pickaway County Health Department on May 24, 2021, the Health Department inspected the restaurant and found several violations that had to do with a major infestation of mice inside the store.

One critical violation said, “Observed mouse dropping in 19 different locations in the store. Mouse dropping were on food prep areas, floors, shelves, and around many doorways. The store is attempting to use traps and pest control methods to take care of the issue. The store needs a deep cleaning to remove all mouse dropping, clean all cleanable products and discard any products that are contaminated and can not be cleaned.”

The report said that the owner after the poor report decided to voluntarily close and will reopen after a follow up inspection to show that, “the mouse droppings are cleaned up and the store is returned to a sanitary condition.”

In total the restaurant suffered 3 critical violations and two non critical mostly to do with the infestation. They are listed below:

3717-1-04.5(A)(1) / Cleanliness of equipment food-contact surfaces and utensils.
Critical Equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are unclean.Observed mice droppings on many surfaces in the store. Food contact surfaces need to be clean to sight and touch.

3717-1-07.1(C) / Poisonous or toxic materials: Conditions of use.
Critical Observed chemical bait traps and green pellet bait scatted in the store. Bait and pesticides can not be applied commercially with out a proper commercial applicator licence. Improper use of a poisonous or toxic substance. Commercial exterminator needs to be called and used to apply pesticides in the store.

3717-1-06.4(K) / Controlling pests.

Store needs a deep cleaning to remove all mouse dropping, clean all cleanable products and discard any products that are contaminated and can not be cleaned.

3717-1-07.1(K) / Rodent bait stations.
Observed green pellet mouse bait scattered on floor for pest control. Rodent bait shall be contained in a covered, tamper resistant bait station. Pesticides being used in the store need to follow 7.1(K) to ensure safety.

3717-1-04.5(D) / Nonfood-contact surfaces – cleaning frequency.
Non-food contact surface(s) not cleaned at the required frequency. Large build up of mouse droppings all over store. Owner claims they have not had a mouse in over a week. Cleaning frequency needs to be more than weekly to prevent dirt build up.

The store met with inspectors today and has reopened
