Circleville, Ohio- Just like a BLT sub isn’t complete without the bacon, Circleville, Ohio isn’t complete without the staple, Richie’s New York Corner Deli.
Owner, Richard (Richie) Verito moved to Circleville in 2005 and started his deli in 2012, right in the heart of town. When you walk in, most often you are welcomed by Richie himself, and you can find a menu that awaits you with an array of quality subs and sandwiches inspired by this “Big Apple” native.
Richie says this of Circleville, Ohio: “Being raised in Brooklyn had a lasting impact on me and I’m thankful for my roots, but I knew immediately upon meeting the Circleville people, this is where I’d call home.”
It was no surprise when Richie contacted the leading healthcare giant, OhioHealth Berger Hospital, about this initiative, there wasn’t a bit of hesitation. OhioHealth is a strong advocate for the various communities they serve.
“Partnering with Richie’s Deli and other local businesses to better the community and demonstrate our support is a top priority for Ohio- Health,” stated Tim Colburn, President of OhioHealth Berger Hospital. “This mural is a great tribute to many key community assets here in Pickaway County.”
After a year of seclusion and isolation, Richie felt this was the perfect way to bring the message of community and pride back to Circleville in a big way. The corner deli’s tagline of “Be Bold,” is ready to take on a whole new meaning.
OhioHealth Berger Hospital will feature a stunning wallscape on the building that holds the deli and is owned by Verito Properties, LLC. This wallscape will include some familiar and rather famous sites that will be known by the many who call Pickaway County home. Verito is also planning a charitable component with this new art and will give a portion of the proceeds from this to either a beautification or downtown Circleville effort each year.
While excitement is buzzing for this partnership between OhioHealth Berger Hospital and Verito’s property, there is still one more important step for full execution. The Board of Zon- ing Appeals needs to cast a favorable vote for a wallscape of this size to be placed on the building. OhioHealth Berger Hospital and Richie Verito are anxiously awaiting the Final deci- sion.
Verito says this of the initiative, “I feel this project will benefit Circleville for many years, not only as a lovely piece of art, but my hope is the charity component will have a ripple effect to keep beautification efforts of our town alive and growing.”
