LANCASTER, Ohio (December 10, 2021) — Today, a group of 26 local citizens announced that it has purchased the assets of the Lancaster Country Club with the intention of preserving the property as an operating golf course. The entity will operate under the name Lancaster Golf Club, LLC.
The new owners have already accessed the grounds, which has been closed since September 2021. The owners have taken steps to winterize the course and pool and will be working toward a spring 2022 opening. The Club will be operated as a public course, with memberships available for purchase.
“Our goal is simple: persevere this high-quality asset for our community,” said Leonard Gorsuch, Managing Member, Lancaster Golf Club, LLC. “It has been operating for 112 years, and it has a rich history and tradition. We want to ensure that generations to come have the opportunity to experience the course and make memories of their own.”
Fellow Managing Member Norman “Pip” Ogilvie, explained “This truly is the premier golf course in Fairfield County – and our goal is to maintain and enhance the course in the coming months so that more people can enjoy golfing here with colleagues, family and friends.”
Other Managing Members of the Club include Chris Smith, Dave Smith and Kent Swinehart.

About the course: The Club’s par-72, 18-hole course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,233 yards to the championship tees at 6,739 yards, with a 73.0 course rating and a 141-slope rating. The course was built in 1909 as a 9-hole layout and was redesigned by famed Scottish golf course architect Donald Ross in 1926. The second 9 was added in 1959 and designed by another famed golf course architect Jack Kidwell. The Donald Ross Society came to Lancaster in the 1980’s and re-designed the second 9 in the style of Donald Ross to better match the design character of the first 9 holes.
