COLUMBUS – February is black history month and one of the best ways to celebrate it is to immerse yourself in events, exhibitions, and activities celebrating that history.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.
Officially Black History Month was established in 1976 when President Gerald Ford (Republican) called upon the country to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
Columbus Ohio has created a webpage of a number of events, exhibitions and activities for people of all ages to attend that webpage is here: https://www.experiencecolumbus.com/blog/post/how-to-honor-black-history-month-in-columbus/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
