(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued the following reprieves of execution:

  • Greg Lott, who was scheduled to be executed on February 15, 2024.  The new date of execution has been moved to April 14, 2027.

Fifty-nine-year-old Gregory is convicted of murdering 82-year-old John McGrath during a robbery in his East Cleveland home on July 12, 1986. Gregory has spent the past 33 years on Ohio’s death row.On July 12, 1986, a man, later determined by police to be Gregory Lott, broke into the home of John McGrath. The intruder tied up John, doused him with heating-lamp oil, and set him on fire. Police discovered John on July 15, 1986, when they went to his home for a welfare check, following a report that an unknown person was driving his car. John had been badly injured but was still alive. Unfortunately, John died on July 23, 1986, from pneumonia arising from his injuries.

  • John Stojetz, who was scheduled to be executed on March 14, 2024.  The new date of execution has been moved to May 19, 2027.

Stojetz was sentenced to death for his role in the 1996 riot that resulted in the death of Damico Watkins, a 17-year-old black inmate at Madison Correctional Institution in London, Ohio. Stojetz is known to be part of the Aryan Brotherhood and fought back against the prison for sharing cells with black inmates.

  • Archie Dixon, who was scheduled to be executed on April 17, 2024.  The new date of execution has been moved to June 16, 2027.

Archie Dixon was sentenced to death by the State of Ohio for the murder of his roommate. According to court documents Archie Dixon and Timothy Hoffner would kidnap their roommate Christopher Hammer who was brought to a forested area and buried alive. Archie Dixon and Timothy Hoffner would take money from the victim’s bank account along with his personal identification. Archie Dixon and Timothy Hoffner would be arrested, convicted, and sentenced to death.

Governor DeWine is issuing this reprieve due to ongoing problems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), pursuant to DRC protocol, without endangering other Ohioans.
