Pickaway – A charity aimed at giving to people who are sometimes forgotten over Christmas local elderly in nursing homes.

The Red Cross Senior Giving Tree has been giving back to seniors for the last seventeen years, filling Christmas lists. There are 334 residents in our Pickaway County Nursing Homes this year and the trees have all of their Christmas wish lists. Most of the time these items consist of basic needs like toiletries, socks, puzzles, and hair products.

Its super easy to participate in the charity, pick a tag or multiple tags, and make their Christmases special. Trees are located at WesBanco Bank Circleville, Circleville and Ashville Apothecary, Kingston National Bank in Circleville and South Bloomfield, Ashville IGA, Gibby’s Restaurant, Pickaway County Library (Circleville location), Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, and Trinity Lutheran Church. Once you are done shopping you can bring your gift bags to WesBanco Bank in Circleville. Instructions for delivery along with the address and due dates for the packages are on the back of the tags.

Red Cross’s mission statement is, “To provide holiday cheer to area seniors in nursing homes with the help of the nursing homes’ Activities Directors.  We will accomplish this through the support of the community in Pickaway County.  Any and all donations will remain in Pickaway County to serve our local community.”

“This charity was created by a red cross volunteer in the Pickaway area 17 years ago. I’m not sure what made her do this but she saw a need in the nursing homes to do this and every year this has grown into something amazing,” said Rod Cook Executive Director for the Red Cross.
