Chillicothe – On March 4th 2024 while on patrol, a Detective observed a a black Nissan traveling S/B on Douglas Avenue. Detective pulled behind the vehicle and observed the driver making several movements in the driver’s seat. Check of the vehicle registration showed vehicle plates were registered to a black Chevy. This Detective initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for Fictitious Plates.
Contact was made with the driver, a 17-year-old juvenile, and the front-seat passenger. During the interaction, the Detective observed the juvenile displaying Indicators of nervous behavior. Based on training and experience, the Detective suspected the juvenile might be involved in criminal activity. Officers on scene also having experience with the juvenile from past interactions reported that he had partaking in Gang related activity specifically the “400 gang” which is known to associate with guns and narcotics.
Upon observing loose ammunition in the vehicle, the Detective conducted a pat-down of the juvenile for officer safety. The pat-down revealed the presence of suspected marijuana and a suspected controlled substance. During the conversation with the juvenile, he told the officer that his dad has a medical marijuana card.
The juvenile was detained, and a search of his person resulted in the seizure of:
- Marijuana
- A suspected controlled substance (weight to be determined)
- US currency
- A mobile phone
The vehicle was also searched, revealing:
- Ammunition
- A handgun under the driver’s seat (serial number defaced)
- A handgun under the passenger seat
The passenger was released from the scene. The juvenile’s legal custodian arrived and was informed of the situation, including the juvenile’s upcoming court appearance.
The vehicle was impounded, and the juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of:
- Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Defaced Firearm
The suspected controlled substance will be sent for further analysis, more charges are pending
