Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman has announced the arrest of two individuals on drug and weapons charges after a routine traffic stop on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
According to Sheriff Thoroughman, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report at approximately 4:33 a.m. regarding a white Chrysler with West Virginia license plates driving recklessly eastbound on U.S. Route 52 (US 52) beyond the 522 Exit.
Deputy Conley, who was patrolling the area, spotted the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Haverhill Ohio Furnace Road for a marked lanes violation.
During the traffic stop, Deputy Conley observed a firearm underneath the vehicle’s gear shift. Subsequently, the deputy obtained consent to search the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a black drawstring bag containing suspected narcotics.
The search revealed approximately 2.04 lbs. of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, along with additional quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl. Also found were drug paraphernalia including small baggies and a scale.
The male driver, identified as Brian Adkins, age 27, from Fort Gay, West Virginia, was found in possession of drug paraphernalia, pills, and cash. The female passenger, identified as Brittany C. Hall, age 27, also from Fort Gay, West Virginia, was found in possession of a significant amount of cash.
Adkins was arrested on multiple charges, including Possession of Drugs, Trafficking in Drugs, and having a Weapon Under Disability. Hall faces similar charges related to drug possession and trafficking.
Both suspects were arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, March 25, 2024.
The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be $20,480.00. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
