Ross County, Ohio – On April 27, 2024, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an active trespass situation along State Route 772. Dispatched to the scene was Deputy Colt Mitchell to address the incident, which involved an armed individual wielding a machete.

Upon arrival at the intersection of State Route 772 and Bishop Hill Road, Deputy Mitchell met with the caller and complainant, that informed Deputy Mitchell that an individual, later identified as Franklin Boggess, was clearing brush and weeds from a property with the belief that it was being purchased by someone he knew. Land Owner requested assistance in placing no trespassing signs on the property.

Deputy Mitchell accompanied the land owner to the property, where they encountered Boggess wielding a machete. Without incident, Deputy Mitchell instructed Boggess to drop the machete so they could speak. Boggess complied, and Deputy Mitchell informed him that the landowners did not authorize his presence on the property. Boggess stated that he believed there had been a misunderstanding and expressed his intention to leave.

The property owner, arrived on the scene and confirmed that Boggess was not permitted on the property. Deputy Mitchell conducted a background check and discovered active warrants for Boggess from both the Ross County and Pike County Sheriff’s Offices. Consequently, Deputy Mitchell informed Boggess that he was trespassed from the premises and placed him under arrest.

Due to medical concerns, Boggess was transported to the Ross County Jail. However, upon arrival, jail medical staff determined that he required medical clearance at the hospital before intake. After receiving clearance, Boggess was transported to the ARMC Emergency Department before being taken to the Ross County Jail.
