The Ted Lewis Museum is set to enchant audiences with a free concert titled “Runnin’ Wild: Ted Lewis in the 1920s” on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at The Amphitheater at the Pickaway Agriculture & Event Center, located at 415 Lancaster Pike in Circleville, Ohio. In case of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
Step back in time to the Jazz Age and relive the magic of Circleville’s own Ted Lewis and his Band! Experience over 20 of his iconic Columbia recordings, including classics like “Tiger Rag,” “When My Baby Smiles at Me,” “St. Louis Blues,” and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.” This “living history” concert will feature vintage instruments, period costumes, and newly transcribed original arrangements, promising to transport audiences a century back in time. Leading the performance is nationally renowned bandleader and clarinetist Matt Tolentino, with special guest “traps” drummer Gavin Rice, bandleader of the Famous Collegiates in Rochester, NY.
“Runnin’ Wild: Ted Lewis in the 1920s” is made possible by generous grants from The Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation, The Ohio Arts Council, and The Savings Bank.
The Ted Lewis Museum, dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of Circleville’s own Ted Lewis, aims to spread joy through education and entertainment. Founded in 1977 by Lewis’ widow, Adah Becker Lewis, the museum pays homage to one of Ohio’s most illustrious citizens and entertainment legends. Admission to the museum, newly renovated to offer an enhanced visitor experience, is free. It operates on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from March to December.
