Columbus, Ohio – May 8, 2024
In a move aimed at promoting sustainability and incentivizing clean energy initiatives, the Ohio House of Representatives has approved House Bill 264. The legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Justin Pizzulli of Scioto County and Mark Johnson of Chillicothe, expands the scope of facilities eligible for the state’s Renewable Energy Tax Credit.
Under the bill, facilities utilizing steam recovered from waste heat to produce energy will now qualify for the Renewable Energy Tax Credit. State Rep. Pizzulli highlighted the significance of the legislation during the session, emphasizing its potential to encourage industries to repurpose wasted energy, thus fostering sustainable practices while bolstering the economy.
“This legislation promotes sustainable industrial practices that bolster our economy and protect our environment,” remarked Pizzulli.
The inspiration behind House Bill 264 stems from SunCoke Energy, an industrial facility located within Pizzulli’s district. The bill aims to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources and facilitate the expansion of clean energy initiatives across Ohio.
With the passage of House Bill 264 in the Ohio House of Representatives, the legislation now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
