In Columbus, Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine has officially signed several bills into law, each addressing different aspects of Ohio’s legal landscape.
Among the newly enacted legislation is Senate Bill 90, spearheaded by Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson), which brings Ohio into the Social Work Licensure Compact, facilitating smoother professional mobility for social workers.
Additionally, House Bill 161, co-sponsored by former Representative Jessica Miranda (D-Forrest Park) and Representative Brett Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville), eliminates spousal exceptions for various offenses including rape, sexual battery, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. This bill also allows individuals to testify against their spouse in prosecutions related to these offenses.
Another significant measure, House Bill 195, introduced by Representatives Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge) and Sean Brennan (D-Parma), establishes a new adaptive mobility dealer license, catering to the evolving needs of Ohio’s transportation sector.
Lastly, House Bill 269, championed by Representative Adam Holmes (R-Nashport), undertakes several initiatives. It updates the name of an organization receiving contributions for the “ALS Awareness” license plate. Additionally, it designates a segment of State Route 60 in Muskingum County as the “Sgt Bradley J. Harper USMC Memorial Highway,” honoring a distinguished military service member.
Governor DeWine’s signing of these bills represents a step forward in addressing various issues impacting Ohioans, from professional licensure to legal protections and recognition of community contributions.
