The Ohio Senate has approved Senate Bill 114, sponsored by State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster), designating a section of U.S. Route 33 in Fairfield County as the “Lance Corporal James F. Kimple Memorial Highway.”
Senator Schaffer praised Lance Corporal Kimple as a true hometown hero, emphasizing the importance of commemorating his sacrifice for his country. Born in Logan and raised in Carroll, Lance Corporal Kimple graduated from Bloom-Carroll High School in 2005 before joining the United States Marine Corps Combat Logistics Battalion 1.
Tragically, Lance Corporal Kimple lost his life in the line of duty while supporting combat operations in Iraq on May 2, 2008, during his second deployment to the region. Remembered as a proud father of three and a cherished husband, son, and brother, Lance Corporal Kimple’s dedication to his family and his country was unwavering.
His obituary reflected on his lifelong aspiration to serve in the military, stating, “James died doing what he wanted to do since age 16. He did it for his family and his country and will always be our hero. The few, the proud, one of our finest.”
Senate Bill 114 will now move to the Ohio House for further consideration.
