Chillicothe Police Apprehend Zachary Yates After Violating Protection Order

On June 4, 2024, Chillicothe police responded to a welfare check at Leggett Avenue, initiated by the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. En route, officers were informed that Zachary Yates had violated a temporary protection order (TPO) and was considered a potential threat, having left a disturbing voicemail threatening to harm his family.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Yates outside, speaking incoherently about the government. As they attempted to take him into custody, he became hostile, resisting arrest and attempting to flee. A Taser was deployed, but only one prong made contact, and Yates continued to struggle. A drive stun was then applied, gaining compliance, and Yates was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Inside the residence, officers found, an elderly victim who was shaken but unharmed.

Yates was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he continued to be uncooperative, claiming to be the second coming of Jesus Christ and making threats towards the officer. He was booked on charges of TPO violation, resisting arrest, and obstructing official business.

This incident highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in dealing with individuals who pose a risk to themselves and others. The Chillicothe Police Department remains committed to ensuring public safety and upholding the law.
