LANCASTER, OH — In a significant move to support senior citizens and veterans, the Fairfield County Commissioners have launched the Senior and Veteran Assistance (SAVA) Program, offering a 10% monthly discount on water and sewer services for qualifying residents.
The SAVA Program underscores the commissioners’ dedication to aiding community members, particularly those aged 65 and above, and veterans. This initiative aims to alleviate financial pressures on individuals who often live on fixed incomes and face rising living expenses.
“We are honored to offer this discount to our senior citizens and veterans,” said Fairfield County Commissioner David L. Levacy. “This program reflects our gratitude and respect for their contributions and sacrifices. We hope this discount will help ease financial burdens and show our appreciation for their service and dedication.”
To qualify for the SAVA Program, customers must be at least 65 years old or veterans. Eligibility for Ohio’s Homestead Exemption is also required. This exemption applies to homeowners who are permanently and totally disabled, military veterans with a 100% disability rating, current exemption recipients, spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty, and those over 65 who meet specific income criteria. The total household income for eligible homeowners should not exceed $36,100 in 2023 or $38,600 in 2024.
Qualified utility account owners can apply for the discount by completing and submitting a SAVA application to the county utilities office at 6670 Lockville Road, Carroll, Ohio 43112.
