Ross County — The “Storywalk” in Buzzard’s Roost Park had a ribbon-cutting Friday. I explored a little of the story trail and looked over the shoulders of kids who were sometimes excited about everything else but the ceremony.
The storywalk is an addition to the trail running through the “Kid’s Nature Zone,” a part of Buzzard’s Roost designed and dedicated to fun and infotainment for little ones.
The Earl H. Barnhart Buzzard’s Roost park is a few miles west of Chillicothe, at the end of Red Bird Lane, which branches off Polk Hollow Road at about its midpoint. The park also has some of the most dramatic terrain in the county, overlooking Alum Cliffs gorge – as well as a family graveyard and house ruins.
But on June 21st, 2024, the focus was on salamanders, a fairy house, a fuzzy vine (don’t touch the poison ivy!), and other items of interest to children. In addition to my story on the ribbon-cutting, here is my photos essay on the afternoon…including experimenting with a time-lapse quick scan through the first part of the Storybook Trail to give a sample of it.
The Ross County Park District has a website and Facebook page, as well as a webpage for Buzzard’s Roost. You can also subscribe to an email newsletter.
