Pickaway County, OH – A tragic motor vehicle crash occurred on June 23, 2024, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call at 3:37 PM reporting the accident on US Route 23 North, just south of Weigand Road.
Deputies quickly arrived on the scene to begin their investigation. They discovered that a 2012 red Mazda MZ6, traveling northbound on US Route 23, veered off the west side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to shoot across the roadway and off the east side, where it rolled several times. The violent motion ejected the driver and one of the two passengers.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Jerri L. Braswell of Columbus, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by Harrison Township EMS. The two juvenile passengers, aged 9 and 11, were transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital by Harrison Township EMS and Scioto Township EMS. Both children are reported to be in stable condition.
Sheriff Hafey expressed his gratitude to Harrison Township Fire and EMS, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, Circleville EMS, Jackson Township Fire Department, Pickaway County Coroner Dr. John Ellis, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for their assistance at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. Further details will be provided as they become available.
