JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Franklin County — A tragic two-vehicle collision on Interstate 270 westbound has resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred around 3:26 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, east of Interstate 71 in Jackson Township. A white 2022 Freightliner semi-truck, traveling westbound, was slowing down for traffic when it was rear-ended by a 2000 GMC van.
The impact caused the GMC van to burst into flames. Fortunately, the semi-truck driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was unharmed. Several Good Samaritans, along with the truck driver, managed to rescue two of the three passengers from the van.
Emergency services arrived at the scene quickly. The driver of the GMC van was taken to Grant Hospital in stable condition, and a juvenile passenger was transported to Children’s Hospital, also in stable condition. Unfortunately, an adult passenger in the GMC was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel from the Jackson Township Fire Department responded to the incident. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the crash.
